Am I a Good Candidate for Teeth Whitening?

Who doesn’t want whiter teeth? Bright pearly whites are a sign not only of good health, but also of youth and vitality. And while brushing and flossing every day, and keeping up with your regular dental check-ups, are the best ways to get you there, professional teeth whitening is a great option for that extra sparkle.

It can be tempting to run out to the grocery store or pharmacy for at-home teeth whitening kits, but do-it-yourself trays, strips, and gels won’t always give you the effects that you want – not to mention they can irritate sensitive teeth.

Is in-office teeth whitening right for me?

Professional teeth whitening at Ambler Dental Care is safe and effective, but that doesn’t mean it’s right for everyone. The best candidates for in-office whitening treatments have healthy teeth, generally with no fillings, crowns, or other restorations. Their gums are also healthy.  It’s also worth noting that according to information from the Cleveland Clinic, patients with more yellow-toned teeth tend to have the best results.

Teeth whitening is not usually recommended for kids aged 16 and under, or for expectant women. It’s also not recommended for people with highly sensitive teeth, sensitive or receding gums, or people allergic to peroxide.

Keep in mind, however, that every smile is different, and these parameters aren’t always true for everyone. To learn more about professional teeth whitening at Ambler Dental Care, including whether or not you’re a good candidate, call our offices today!
